ABOUT ME: My name is Henry Louis Gomez. I live in Miami, Florida with my beautiful wife, Ana Ivette. I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1969. I've also lived in Salamanca, Spain and Gainesville, Florida. My father, Enrique, is a general surgeon and karaoke aficionado and my mother is a travel agent. I have one sibling, my sister, Maria Elena as well as a niece Anne Marie and a nephew, Peter John. I obtained my high school diploma from Belen Jesuit Preparatory School in 1987 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in Economics from the University of Florida in 1991. I work in the field of Hispanic advertising. Besides this web site, my hobbies include car restoration (a friend and I own a 1966 Dodge Polara that we are restoring) and volunteering for Friends of Greyhounds. Ana and I adopted a retired greyhound named Hercules (R.I.P.) and then another named Buddy. I'm also a big sports fan. I'm a season ticket holder for the Florida Marlins and the Miami Dolphins. I'm a rabid Florida Gator fan and some people on Gator message boards know me only as Fishfan-Gatorman. A defining moment in my life was when I was diagnosed with a rare illness in the early 90's. I began having mood swings, depression and later tremors in my arms and legs as well as facial paralysis, drooling, fatigue and loss of balance. After getting progressively worse for about a year and a half I was finally diagnosed with Wilson's Disease by Dr. Carlos Singer in Miami. I participated in a research study at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor under the supervision of Dr. George J. Brewer. I spent eight weeks in the hospital there and was very fortunate to make a complete recovery. Today I take a maintenance medication every day but otherwise you'd never know I was ever sick. During the time I was undiagnosed I went through some personal problems including a divorce and a business failure. After my treatment I went back to school to get a teacher's certificate. At the time I wanted to teach History to high school students. A friend, Jose Lopez-Varela, offered me a temporary job in advertising and I haven't looked back...until now. I guess the historian and teacher in me is finally coming out. I try to live by a personal code that is defined in the following quote by Elvis Presley: - Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain't goin' away. I hope you enjoy this web site and come back often as I intend to update it frequently. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
